Firebrand preacher Rabbi Rafael Zer, the Rosh Yeshiva of Ohr David in Ohr Yehuda, calls for those haredi extremists who spit on women, a disgrace.
He says that every home has a toilet, and every community has its idiots. He is so outraged by those who call themselves Orthodox Jews and spit on women, he would break their bones, pay for someone to shave their beards off and take away their kippah. For Rabbi Rafael Zer these people are committing Hillul HaShem – desecrating the Almighty’s name.

Every house has a toilet? Maybe so in Israel and other first world countries. But let me not stretch the rabbi’s analogy; let’s assume every house has a toilet, and more importantly, that every village has its idiot. I would like, however, to remind the rabbi that the sages say that a person cannot express the good YETSER (inclination) without its complement, the evil YETSER, for as the sages teach, it was only after the Creator had created the evil yetser that he could look on everything he had made and call it not merely good, but VERY good. Hence “genius” is good, but “idiot” is very good.
Every one needs to spit now and then, but the rabbi is right, don’t spit at your wife, rather spit into the toilet. That way no one is going to shave off your beard. and you would’ve saved face.
